SOS Station

A group of Marines, volunteers and political leaders celebrated the opening of a new facility for Soldiers Organized Services on October 1, 2009.
The nonprofit organization of nearly 75 volunteers provides transportation to servicemen, servicewomen and their families from Palm Springs International Airport to the military base in Twentynine Palms at no cost to the individuals and families.
“We’re just really excited,” said Erica Stone, founder of the organization.
SOS will now be based at 690 Garnet Road in north Palm Springs. The nearly 2,000-square-foot space was donated by American Cab Company, which will operate a 24-hour dispatch site in the same building.
The location will also become the new Palm Springs Greyhound Station.
The organization’s space will include a recreational area, a family room, lockers and shower facilities, Stone said.
State Sen. John Benoit issued a certificate of appreciation to Stone and the American Cab Co.
