In 1998, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack was first elected to serve the people of California’s 45th District through a special election held to fill the seat left vacant by her late husband, The Honorable Sonny Bono. Since then, Bono Mack has established herself as a leader on such issues as clean, alternative energy, protecting the environment, improving health care, and protecting consumers. Perhaps one of her most significant legislative achievements, Bono Mack succeeded in passing legislation that established the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto National Mountains Monument in the Palm Springs region. Additionally, Bono Mack successfully moved legislation to compensate the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indian Tribe for land lost in 1908. The agreement settled the longest-ever ongoing litigation in the Ninth Circuit Court of California.

PALM SPRINGS, C.A. (October 16, 2008) – Soldiers Organized Services (SOS) is hosting a fund-raising gala on November 9, 2008 in the Palm Springs Air Museum to raise money for gasoline used by its fleet of volunteer drivers to give free transportation to service members from Palm Springs International Airport to the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Base.

Live music and entertainment are planned as well as food and a “no-host bar.”

Tickets are $75.00 per person and is payable by check or money order.

Soldiers Organized Services (SOS) was founded in 2007 when Erica Stone, founder and director, encountered a stranded and injured Iraq War veteran in Palm Springs International Airport and decided to give him free transportation back to his base. Since then, 4000 service members and their families have been transported by SOS and its fleet of volunteer drivers.

The military motto is “leave no serviceman behind.” Here at SOS, our motto is “leave no serviceman stranded at the airport.”

Our dedicated volunteers and our founder, Erica Stone, truly believe in these mottoes. Not only do we transport our servicemen to and from Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Base, but we raise the funds to pay for the gas, insurance, and upkeep to ensure we can accomplish their mission!

We receive calls from our military men and women who are stranded at the Palm Springs International Airport, especially after the last bus for Twentynine Palms has left. When we do, we contact one of our tireless volunteer drivers to take that service member and give them free transportation to the Marine Corp Base.

Many of these service members do not have the $200 taxicab fare needed to get to their duty station. Because of our efforts, no veteran will ever be stranded at the airport overnight, be alone in a strange town, and ever have to be stranded at the airport.

The men and women of Soldiers Organized Services take these service men and women to their base, free-of-charge, in recognition of their noble service for our country!
